Lindsey Graham can fuck off.
Anyone who supports this war in Iran can fuck off right behind him
That shouldn’t surprise anybody, coming from me, but this crosses a huge line. Graham is asking us to sacrifice that which is most precious to us, and it’s a sacrifice he will not be participating in.
This isn’t just in the abstract. He specifically said he will ask his constituents to send their sons and daughters to the Mid East. Not surprisingly, he has no children of his own to sacrifice on the alter of imperialism.
Don’t try to appeal to my patriotism, or accuse me of not supporting the troops. I have never failed to support the troops. I was at boot camp a day after High School graduation. This is not defending American and Freedom and Civilization. We are not being asked to hand our bloodline over for the defense of the nation. We even stopped calling in the Department of Defense. No foreign army is invading our shores. We are being asked to surrender our children in a war half the world away, in a region which has been destabilized by generations of politicians doing the bidding of corporations. There is nothing there for us.
There is oil. But if we spent a tenth the money and effort we put into decades of war in the Middle east into developing alternative energy, we would be living in a Utopia right now.
I might have even believed, when I was young and naive, that fighting a war today could bring peace and stability to a region, so that we wouldn’t have to fight for generations. That has turned out to be a lie.
We bled in Lebanon in the 1980s, and failed to achieve any lasting peace.
We bled in Kuwait in the 1990s, and failed to achieve any lasting peace.
We bled in Iraq and Afghanistan for the first two decades of this century, and failed to achieve any lasting peace.
How much blood and treasure was spent? How many grieving families? How many wounded who will never recover? How many take their own lives to this day because of those scars? How stupid do they think we are to believe this time will be different?
And now Lindsey wants me to send my brilliant, kind, amazing son half a world away to die for Netanyahu and Trump and the oil companies. To erase a promising young life for geopolitical ends that will do nothing for America or the world but keep two old corrupt men out of prison and “protect shareholder value.”
My kid. Not his, that he doesn’t have. Not Trump’s kid, who they are claiming is “too tall for the military,” which is a transparent and insulting fucking lie. Maybe he’s too tall to fit in the cockpit of a fighter jet, but he could hump a mortar baseplate in an infantry company. Not his oldest son, who is happy to shoot unarmed endangered
species but who I don’t see enrolled in Scout Sniper School.
This is not abstract political debate. This is personal.
